Qualifying Round D, Game 2 preview: Red Star - Allianz Swans
Red Star only needs a victory in its Eurocup second qualifying round return leg against Allianz Swans to advance to the regular season. Head coach Svetislav Pesic's side played to an 82-82 tie at Swans and now has its home court behind it for the second leg. Forward Tadija Dragicevic's 17 points paced four players in double figures for Pesic's team, which gave up a 6-point lead in the final six minutes. The coach could not have been pleased with the production he got from his starters as forward Marko Keselj, guard Boris Bakic, guard Marko Marinovic and center Lawrence Roberts combined for just 17 points. If Pesic can find a more productive lineup, this game could turn into a blowout. Meanwhile head coach Bob Gonnen will look to continue the momentum from last week after his club fought back and knotted the game on guard Deteri Mayes's late three-pointer. Mayes once again led the way with 21 points while guard Anthony Fisher also poured in 21 points. Forward Florian Schöninger knocked down 4 triples for 12 points and forwards Matthias Mayer and Reggie Huffman both added 10 points. But there was little other production from the rest of Gonnen's Swans. Center Elijah Palmer tallied just 2 points in 33 minutes of action and a boost from him would be a help. But as always, Swans’ chances of moving to the regular season rest squarely on the shoulders of Mayes.
