L. Rytas star Nielsen out of Eurocup opener
|
Big news accompanies today's Eurocup opening game, in which Lietuvos Rytas star Matt Nielsen will not play against Asvel Basket due to a possible move to another club. Lietuvos Rytas has confirmed negotiations over Nielsen's contract with Pamesa Valencia of Spain. The new head coach of Pamesa is Neven Spahija, who originally brought Nielsen to L. Rytas. Nielsen would be ineligible to take part with another Eurocup team until the end of the regular season if he plays tonight, so the club opted to sit him out. Nielsen has started his fourth season with Lietuvos Rytas. He has averaged 11.7 points and 5.4 rebounds in seven Baltic League games this season. Nielsen, the captain of the Australian national team, has helped L. Rytas to win a Lithuanian League title, as well as lifting two Baltic League trophies and making it to the 2007 ULEB Cup final against Real Madrid.
