VEF Riga signed veteran guard Kristaps Janicenoks for the coming season. Janicenoks returns to play in his native Latvia for the first time since 2003. He arrives from Umana Venezia, where he averaged 14.5 points and 3.4 rebounds in the Italian second division last season. Janicenoks has played two previous Eurocup seasons and also has Euroleague experience. He began his career with ASK Broceni Riga before moving abroad for the first time in 2003 as a 20-year-old, when he signed for Belgian club Liege BC. Janicenoks has since played for Telekom Bonn in Germany and for Fortitudo Bologna, Capo D'Orlando, Siviglia Wear Teramo and Venice in Italy. He has also been a regular for the Latvian national team and averaged 13.3 points per game last summer at EuroBasket 2009 in Poland.
