ASVEL Villeurbanne signed its former player Livio Jean-Charles to a three-year contract, the club announced Thursday. Jean-Charles (2.05 meters, 24 years old) has spent the majority of his career with ASVEL, which he joined as a 17-year-old in 2011. Before that the young forward helped lead INSEP, the French National Institute of Sport's competitive team, to the gold medal at the Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament in 2010. Jean-Charles played five seasons for ASVEL's senior team, culminating in winning the 2016 French championship. After that he went overseas and played parts of two seasons with Austin in the G-League; he averaged 11.3 points and 5.6 rebounds over 45 games last season. Jean-Charles finished the 2016-17 campaign with ASVEL and joined Unicaja Malaga at the end of last season. He averaged 4.6 points and 3.1 rebounds in eight games in Spain.
"I'm very happy that Livio is coming home!" ASVEL president Tony Parker said in a release. "It is a great joy to have a player of this level in our squad over the next three seasons. I hope this will encourage other French reference players to join us when we evolve in the EuroLeague."
