Roberta Guerra - Gran Canaria Gran Canaria Grupo Dunas bounced back from consecutive losses in Group A by beating Brose Baskets 80-67 at home in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain on Tuesday night. Gran Canaria improved to 3-2 in the standings and is one win away from Group A winners Lietuvos Rytas. Meanwhile, Brose Baskets dropped to 1-4 and needs to start winning right away in order to reach the elimination rounds. Roberto Guerra led the winners with 18 points while Sitapha Savane added 16 on 6-for-6 shooting for Gran Canaria. Zelly Wesson and DeJuan Collins each had 20 points for Brose Baskets while Chris Ensminger added 12. Brose Baskets opened the game with a 0-11 run, but Guerra and Savane brought Gran Canaria within 17-19 after 10 minutes. An outstanding Savane allowed the hosts to get a 38-34 edge at halftime, while a 10-0 run in which Guerra had 7 points made Gran Canaria seal the win, 62-45, at the end of the third quarter.

Collins opened fire with a driving layup, igniting a 0-11 opening run which he highlighted with a basket-plus-foul. Wesson capped Brose Baskets' run with a three-pointer, as Gran Canaria went scoreless for 2 minutes until Jimmie Hunter followed a long jumper with a three-pointer for a 5-11 deficit. Collins kept pacing Brose Baskets with free throws, as the hosts kept struggling to score. Marcus Norris shined with a second-chance layup which Wesson quickly erased in the other end. Savane came off the bench and stepped up with consecutive baskets, forcing the guests to call timeout. Points came the hard way late in the first quarter, as Derrick Zimermann, Savane and Guerra made free throws to fix the score at 17-19 after 10 minutes. Darren Fenn nailed a four-meter jumper early in the second quarter and then matched Guerra's triple with a layup-plus-foul to keep Brose Baskets ahead, 20-24. Savane dunked it again and followed Baldo's three-pointer with a short jumper to give Gran Canaria its first lead, 27-26, after 14 minutes. Savane kept shining with consecutive tip-ins and a steal with allowed Guerra to give the hosts a 33-26 edge, after a 13-2 run. Collins tried to change things with a second-chance basket while Ensminger added back-to-back layups, but Gran Canaria kept its momentum going. Hunter scored in penetration but another close basket by Ensminger brought Brose Baskets within 38-34 at halftime.

De Juan Collins - Brose BasketsGran Canaria looked for its big men right after the break, as Jackson Vroman hit a mid-range jumper while Kornel David made free throws for a 42-34 lead. Jim Moran capped a 6-0 Gran Canaria lead with a power layup. Collins and Wesson tried to wake Brose Baskets up, while Ensminger scored again to get the guests within 46-39. Gran Canaria kept following its game plan, looking for its frontcourt for easy points. Moran and David hit free throws, bur Ensminger kept pacing Brose Baskets with consecutive baskets to give his team some hope at 52-43. Guerra decided he had enough, however, as he had 7 unanswered points in a 10-0 run which Baldo capped with a three-pointer to break the game, 62-45, at the end of the third quarter. Collins tried to ignit the Brose Baskets comeback with a layup but Gran Canaria did not panic. Mario Fernandez scored off a steal while Guerra dunked it to make it 66-47 with 8 minutes to go. The outcome was clear and points differential was the issue now. Even when Collins and Wesson did not give up, they only managed to get Brose Baskets within 80-67 at the buzzer.
