Game Center: Five teams are 2-0
After Round 1 saw five teams win on the road, Round 2 featured just two road winners: Virtus Segafredo Bologna and MoraBanc Andorra. Virtus remained perfect on the season and joined two Group E teams – AS Monaco and Joventut Badalona, Boulogne Metropolitans 92 of Group F and UNICS Kazan of Group H at 2-0.
AS Monaco remained undefeated in the Top 16 after downing Unicaja Malaga 90-71 at home on Tuesday. Monaco improved to 2-0 and remained undefeated at home against Spanish League teams in EuroCup action - four wins in as many games. Unicaja dropped to 0-2. Rob Gray paced the winners with 24 points and Mathias Lessort tallied 20 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 blocks. Unicaja led 31-39 at halftime. J.J. O'Brien and an unstoppable Lessort rescued Monaco, giving their team a 61-57 margin at the end of the third quarter. Monaco boosted its margin to 69-59 and never looked back. Deon Thompson led Unicaja with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Joventut Badalona overcame a 10-point first-quarter deficit to claim a 95-90 victory over visiting Nanterre 92 at Palau Olimpic on Wednesday night. The hosts claimed their second win on as many games to stay atop Group E, while the visitors dropped to 0-2. Joventut used offensive rebounding to stay into the game before halftime and collected timely three-pointers bridging the third and fourth quarters to amass a double-digit lead, 88-77, that Nanterre couldn’t make up for in the last minutes. Vladimir Brodziansky led the winners with 17 points and 6 rebounds, followed by Shaw Dawson with 16 points. Tyler Stone recorded career-high 26 points on 11-of-19 field goal shooting in defeat.
Boulogne Metropolitans 92 wrestled away sole possession of first place in Group F with an impressive defensive showing in a 79-62 home victory over Partizan NIS Belgrade. David Michineau led the way with 16 points and 4 assists for Metropolitans, which improved to 2-0. Miralem Halilovic scored a career-high 15 points while Maxime Roos had a career night with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks. Partizan suffered its first loss of the Top 16 to fall to 1-1 despite Codi Miller-McIntyre and Rade Zagorac both tallying 14 points. After an outstanding back-and-forth battle, Dolomiti Energia Trento grabbed its first win in the Top 16 by downing Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar 96-84 at home on Wednesday. Lokomotiv trailed 48-20 late in the first half, but managed to get within 75-73 with 7 minutes left. Trento improved its defense when it mattered most and an outstanding Luke Maye allowed the hosts to hold off Lokomotiv's comeback and get a big win. Trento is now 1-1 in Group F while Lokomotiv dropped to 0-2. Maye led the winners with 23 points and 15 rebounds and JaCorey Williams added 17 points. Jordan Crawford paced Lokomotiv with 20 points.
Virtus Segafredo Bologna remained undefeated this season with an 87-99 rod win over JL Bourg en Bresse at Ekinox. The victory sent Virtus atop Group G at 2-0, while dropping Bourg to 0-2. Vince Hunter dominated with a career-highs of 23 points and 11 rebounds for his first EuroCup double-double. Milos Teodosic amassed 21 points and 6 assists and Marco Belinelli netted 19 points. Danilo Andjusic paced Bourg with 19 points. Edo Muric's three-pointer with 46 seconds remaining was the last of seven lead changes in the fourth quarter alone as Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana held on for a 74-71 victory over Buducnost VOLI Podgorica at Arena Stozice on Tuesday night. It was also the 15th three of the game for Olimpija to set a club record as the team improved to 1-1 and dropped Buducnost to the same record. Muric finished with a season-high 16 points, as did Kendrick Perry who also dished 10 assists. Amedeo Della Valle and Willie Reed scored 11 each for Buducnost.
UNICS Kazan remained undefeated in the Top 16 by downing Herbalife Gran Canaria 73-62 at home on Wednesday. UNICS improved to 2-0 in the standings while Gran Canaria dropped to 0-2. John Holland led the winners with 14 points and Jamar Smith and Artem Klimenko each scored 13 for UNICS. Stan Okoye led Gran Canaria with 12 points. UNICS led 33-30 at halftime and it was 58-53 midway through the fourth quarter when Holland and Isaiah Canaan fuelled a 10-0 run that sealed the outcome long before the final buzzer. MoraBanc Andorra snapped its five-game losing streak by knocking off Mornar Bar 71-74. Andorra dominated the glass and ended up winning the game on a three-pointer with 38 seconds left by Clevin Hannah, who poured in 16 points in pushing his team to a 1-1 record. Artsiom Parakhouski added 12 points and helped Andorra take the rebounding battle 44-23. Mornar could not get its offense going and only Jacob Pullen scored in double figures with 22 points as the Montenegrin club dropped to 1-1.
