Diener sets new Eurocup assists record
Travis Diener - Banco di Sardegna SassariDinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari guard Travis Diener set a new Eurocup single-game assists record Wednesday with 15 against Crvena Zvezda Diva at Hala Pionir in Belgrade. Crvena Zvezda won the high-scoring affair 116-104. Diener delivered 7 first half assists and 5 more in the third quarter to move within reach of the record. He tied the mark two-and-a-half minutes into the fourth quarter with a dish to Tony Easley for a dunk. Easley was also the recipient of the record-breaking pass midway through the fourth quarter. The competition’s assist record was 14, shared by three players. Roko Ukic was the first to record that many assists in a January 2004 game for KK Split. Christain Dalmau matched that number when he played for Besiktas in the 2007-08 season. And Krsitaps Valters notched 14 assists two seasons later when he played for DKV Joventut. Diener’s effort wasn’t the only record set in that game. Crvena Zvezda’s 38 two-point baskets made marked the most ever scored in a regulation Eurocup game and tied Lukoil Academic for the most. Academic set the record in a triple-overtime win in November 2003. And Sassari’s 18 three-pointers made tied for the second-most made in a Eurocup game. That record is 20.
