Regular Season game 3 MVP: Tywain McKee, BC Triumph
Nov 22, 2012
For the second consecutive week, not only did Tywain Mckee lead BC Triumph Lyubertsy to a big Eurocup win, but he also managed to record the best individual performance in the competition. McKee’s superb performance in a road win at VEF Riga made him the first player to earn back-to-back Eurocup weekly MVP awards since Damjan Rudez of Cedevita did it in the 2010-11 Last 16. McKee led Triumph to an 84-91 road win with 32 points on 10-of-13 two-point shooting. He added 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals and 10 fouls drawn to reach a performance index ranking of 42, the best overall in Week 3. Justin Doellman of Valencia Basket led his team to a 97-64 home win with 31 points on 9-of-9 two-point shooting, 3 of 6 three-pointers and 4 of 5 free throws. He added 4 rebounds, 2 steals, 3 blocks and 5 fouls drawn for a 37 index. Bootsy Thornton of Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari had an outstanding performance against Crvena Zvezda Diva Belgrade. Despite his team's 116-104 road loss, Thornton shined with 33 points on 7-of-8 three-point shooting, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 fouls drawn, good for a 36 index. Sammy Mejia of Banvit BK Bandirma and Igor Rakocevic of Crvena Zvezda, each with a 34 index, complete the list of top individual performances this week.
Individual highs: Travis Diener of Sassari sets assist record
Thornton was this week's high scorer with 33 points against Zvezda. He is also the competition's scoring leader with an average of 25 points per game. His teammate Travis Diener dished 15 assists to break the Eurocup's all-time single-game record. Roko Ukic, Christian Dalmau and Kristaps Valters had shared the previous record with 14 each. Diener also leads the assists standings at 10 per night. Devin Green of PBC Lukoil Academic Sofia, Ivan Paunic of BC Azovmash Mariupol, Cedomir Vitkovac of Buducnost Voli Podgorica and Arminas Urbutis of BC Prienai each pulled down 11 rebounds this week. Urbutis shares first place with Aleks Maric of PBC Lokomotiv Kuban, each at 9.3 boards per game. McKee led the weekly list in steals with 4 against VEF and is also first overall at 3.33 per game. Doelmann and Chuck Davis of Banvit each had 3 blocks this week. Davis is tied atop the overall standings with Keaton Nankivil of Ratiopharm Ulm and D'or Fischer of BC Donetsk, each at 1.67 per game. Diener (13 points, 15 assists), Nick Calathes of Lokomotiv (20 points, 10 assists), Dennis Horner of Artland Dragons Quakenbrueck (12 points, 10 rebounds), Vitkovac (10 points, 11 rebounds), Green (13 points, 11 rebounds) and Urbutis (15 points, 11 rebounds) all registered double-doubles in regular season Game 3.
