Lokomotiv Kuban inks proven winner Delaney
Jul 02, 2014
Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar added a true scoring weapon and a lot of quickness to its backcourt by signing combo guard Malcolm Delaney on Wednesday. Former Eurocup star returns to the competition after making a splash in a stellar Turkish Airlines Euroleague debut with FC Bayern Munich last season. Delaney (1.91 meters, 25 years old) finished second among all Euroleague players in average performance index rating (17.4 per game) and ranked among the top 10 in points (13.9), assists (4.5) and fouls drawn (6.33), helping newcomer Bayern become an instant Euroleague playoff contender. He also won the bwin MVP award for Top 16 Round 10. During the 2012-13 Eurocup campaign with Budivelnik Kiev, he was that competition's top scorer, accumulating 257 points on his way to 2012-13 All-Eurocup first team honors. He also broke several records in Game 1 of the Eurocup Semifinals against Uxue Bilbao Basket, including semifinal marks of 38 points and a 47 index rating. Moreover, in his first three professional seasons since arriving to Europe from Virginia Tech University, Delaney has won wherever he played, raising a domestic league trophy in a different country each year. In 2012, he lifted the French title with Elan Chalon, in 2013 he led Budivelnik Kiev to the Ukrainian championship, and last year Delaney led Bayern to its first German title in almost 60 years.
