Reggio Emilia pens scorer Diener to multi-year deal

Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia bolstered its attack by signing guard Drake Diener to a multi-year contract, the club announced Wednesday. Diener (1.96 meters, 32 years old) arrives from Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari, where last season he averaged 16.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 17 Eurocup appearances. He ranked second in the Eurocup regular season in three-pointers made (33) and 10th in points scored in that phase (162). Diener played college basketball at DePaul University from 2001 to 2005 and since then has played in Italy. He arrived in Sassari in 2011 and played there until this season. Before that, Diener had also played for Montepaschi Siena, Teramo, Avellino, Castelletto and Orlandina. He won an Italian League title with Siena in 2008 and the Italian Cup with Sassari last season.
