Baloncesto Seville added experience and defensive skills to its roster by inking veteran shooting guard Berni Rodriguez to a one-year deal on Friday. Rodriguez (1.97 meters, 34 years old) arrives from UCAM Murcia, where he averaged 7.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1 steal in 27 Spanish League games last season. Born in Malaga, Rodriguez started his career with Unicaja, making his Spanish League debut in the 1999-00 season. He played for Unicaja for 13 consecutive seasons, becoming its team captain and helping his team become a Turkish Airlines Euroleague powerhouse. Rodriguez helped Unicaja win the Korac Cup in 2001, the Spanish King's Cup in 2005 and the Spanish League in 2006, as well as reaching the Euroleague Final Four in 2007. He was also a member of the Spanish national team, to which he helped win the 2006 FIBA World Championships and get respective silver medals at EuroBasket 2007 and the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. He played 169 Euroleague games with Unicaja, accumulating 1,254 points, 357 assists and 126 steals. Rodriguez is now ready to make his Eurocup debut with Seville next season.
