James Augustine Gran Canaria has completed its roster for the coming season with the signings of power forward James Augustine and playmaker Josh Fisher, the club announced Thursday. Augustine (208, 24) arrives from Orlando in the NBA, where he took part in 25 games last season. He was a college basketball star at the University of Illinois, with whom he reached the NCAA championship game in 2005 as a junior. Augustine was named to the All-Big 10 first team the next year when he averaged 13.6 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. He finished his college basketball career as the school's all-time leading rebounder with 1,023 boards. Augustine has spent parts of the past two years with Orlando and that club’s NBDL affiliate Anaheim. Gran Canaria will be his first club in Europe.

Fisher (189, 27) arrives from Etosa Alicante of the Spanish second division, where he averaged 10.6 points, 2.1 assists and 1.4 steals last season. He has spent his entire professional career in Spain, playing at Pamesa Castellon, Pamesa Valencia, CAI Zaragoza, Farho Gijon, Real Madrid and Polaris World Murcia before joining Alicante in January 2007. He took part in seven Euroleague games – including two starts – with Madrid during the 2005-06 season.

"He is a good rebounder and I think that he will help us a lot in this facet of the game," Gran Canaria sporting director Hammar Ojeda said of Augustine. "In addition, He plays well without the ball and is a good mid-range shooter. He will make our inside game bigger and strong." Regarding Fisher, Ojeda added "Josh Fisher can help us on a daily basis. He is a good defender with good game management and court vision."
