Oostende signs big man Nick Fazekas

Nick Fazekas (Photo: NBA.com)Base BC Oostende added another piece to its frontcourt with the signing of Nick Fazekas as the club aims to qualify for the Eurocup. Fazekas (210, 23) joins the club just after it ousted BC Triumph in the first qualifying round of the Eurocup and arrives in time to play in the crucial second qualifying round tie against Le Havre. Oostende will be the first stop in Europe for Fazekas, who played in the NBA for Dallas and the L.A. Clippers last season. He saw action if four games for Dallas and 22 for L.A., averaging 4.1 points and 3.4 rebounds along the way. Fazekas also spent time last season in the NBDL with Tulsa, where he averaged 19.2 points and 9.9 rebounds in 28 games. He is best known for a standout college basketball career at the University of Nevada, where Fazekas left as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,464 points. He was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year in three straight seasons and was a third-team All-American selection in 2006 and second team All-American in 2007. Fazekas takes the place of Slobodan Ljubotina, who has been released.
