Strawberry (196, 23) is expected in Italy in the coming days. He arrives from Phoenix of the NBA, where he averaged 2.2 points in 33 games as a rookie last season. He also played five games for Albuquerque of the NBDL, averaging 31.6 points and shooting 43.3% from downtown. Strawberry has been in the spotlight throughout his career. His father is former Major League Baseball All-Star Darryl Strawberry, which caused D.J. to have a following already in high school. He chose to play college basketball at the University of Maryland, but his career was interrupted by an ACL injury during his senior year. But Strawberry bounced back and was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Second Team and ACC All-Defensive Team after averaging 14.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2 steals as a senior.
