Union Olimpija Ljubljana invested in its future, locking up one of the brightest talents on the continent Blaz Mesicek on a five-year deal on Tuesday. It is the first professional contract for Mesicek (1.97 meters, 18 years old) who played for youth categories of Olimpija and on loan at Slovenian second division club Skofja Loka. Last season, he was the top scorer of the Slovenian second division with an average of 21.1 points, 4 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game, helping Skofja Loka to the title. Earlier this year, Mesicek was voted the MVP of the ADIDAS NEXT GENERATION TOURNAMENT in L'Hospitalet, leading Olimpija to the semifinals with the averages of 18.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, 3.3 asists and 2.0 steals. Young guard has so far also won U19 and U17 Slovenian Championship with Union Olimpija, and was also selected into All-Tournament teams of both Slovenian U19 and U17 League.
