Dominion Bilbao Basket and head coach Sito Alonso reached a new agreement to extend his contract until the end of the 2019-20 season, the club announced Friday. Alonso, age 39, joined the team last season and took it to the Spanish League playoffs, ranking fourth at the end of the regular season with a 20-14 record. He started his coaching career with Joventut Badalona. Alonso was promoted to the head coaching spot before the start of the 2008-09 season, replacing Aito Garcia Reneses. He also coached Gipuzkoa Basket before joining Bilbao. He helped Joventut win the 2006 FIBA Eurocup, the 2008 Copa del Rey and the 2008 ULEB Cup titles as assistant coach. Alonso was chosen as the Spanish League Coach of the Year in 2012 and has also led the Spanish U20 national team to win a bronze medal at the 2013 European Championships. He also worked for the Spanish national team as assistant coach at the 2014 FIBA World Cup.
