Herbalife Gran Canaria Las Palmas bolstered its frontcourt by inking center Alen Omic to a two-year deal on Saturday. Omic (2.17 meters, 23 years old) arrives from Union Olimpija Ljubljana, where he averaged 11.9 points and 6.9 rebounds in 15 Eurocup games last season. He ranked 14th in performance index ranking per game (16.2) in the 2014-15 Eurocup. He helped Olimpija win the Slovenian Cup title in 2013. Omic has also played for Zlatorog Lasko, as well as being a member of the Slovenian national team. He helped the Slovenian U20 national team get a bronze medal at the 2012 European Championships, averaging 16.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 6 games. Omic also played well at the 2014 FIBA World Cup, averaging 7.7 points and 5.4 rebounds and helping Slovenia reach the quarterfinals.
