Montakit Fuenlabrada added another savvy veteran ahead of its maiden 7DAYS EuroCup debut by signing guard Carlos Cabezas. Amazingly, this will mark Cabezas’s first EuroCup campaign too after 161 EuroLeague appearances for three different clubs. Cabezas (1.86 meters, 25 years old) arrives from UCAM Murcia, where he spent the past two seasons following his first season with Fuenlabrada in 2013-14. Last season he averaged 6.1 points on 37.3% three-points shooting and 2.5 assists in 34 Spanish League games. Cabezas came up through the Unicaja Malaga system and played a decade for the club before heading to Russia to play one season for Khimki Moscow Region in 2009. He then spent two seasons with CAI Zaragoza and another for Caja Laboral Vitoria before joining Fuenlabrada the first time.
Cabezas has enjoyed a storied career, which saw him reap awards both at the club and national levels. He led Unicaja to the 2001 Korac Cup, 2005 Copa Del Rey, 2006 Spanish League championship and an appearance at the 2007 EuroLeague Final Four. He became a world champion with Spain in 2006 and also won a gold medal at EuroBasket 2009 and a silver at EuroBasket 2007.
"I am delighted to return to Fuenlabrada, a club where I felt loved and respected," Cabezas said. "It's an exciting project with the challenge of the ACB and EuroCup, I chatted with [Coach] Jota Cuspinera and we agreed on many things. We know at what point I am in my career, how I played in recent seasons and how I can be useful to the team. I feel good physically. I have that hunger to play and the competitive gene forever. The adjustment is simple because I am back with teammates who I already had in Fuenlabrada, like Chema, Rolands and Ivan and with other players I have met many times, like Marko, who I have faced both in the Russian league and the ACB and in many international games."
