ASVEL Basket made sure it will have an experience, reliable backcourt for the foreseeable future by inking shooting guard A.J. Slaughter and re-signing combo guard DeMarcus Nelson to respective two-year deals, the club announced Saturday night. Slaughter (1.91 meters, 29 years old) arrives from Strasbourg, where he averaged 13.2 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 47 French League games last season, helping his team reach the finals. He started his career with Angelico Biella of Italy and has also played for Belfius Mons-Hainaut of Belgium, Cholet Basket and Chalon-Sur-Saone of France, Panathinaikos Athens of Greece and Banvit Bandirma of Turkey. He helped Panathinaikos win the Greek Cup title in 2015 and is a member of the Polish national team. Slaughter brings in plenty of 7DAYS EuroCup experience - ASVEL will be his fifth team in the competition. He has accumulated 479 points and 122 assists in 40 EuroCup career games with Mons, Cholet, Chalon and Banvit.
Nelson (1.93 meters, 31 years old) averaged 8.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 37 French League games last season. He started his career with Golden State of the NBA and also played fror Bakersfield and Austin of the D-League, Zagreb of Croatia, Air Avellino of Italy, Cholet and Monaco of the French League, Donetsk of Ukraine, Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade of Serbia, Panathinaikos and Unicaja Malaga of Spain. He helped Zvezda win the Serbian Radivoj Korac Cup in 2013 and 2014, as well as lifting the Greek Cup trophy with Panathinaikos in 2015, with Slaughter as one of his teammates. Nelson averaged 11.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.3 rebounds in 23 EuroCup career games, all of them with Zvezda.
