Loukas Mavrokefalidis - OlympiacosSpartak St. Petersburg kept improving its froncourt for the upcoming Eurocup Qualifying Rounds by inking big man Loukas Mavrokefalidis to a two-year deal, the club announced Saturday. Mavrokefalidis (210, 26) arrives from Olympiacos, where he averaged 8.4 points and 4 rebounds in 18 Euroleague games last season. He helped the Reds to win back-to-back Greek Cup titles in 2010 and 2011, as well as reaching the Euroleague final in 2010. Mavrokefalidis has also played for Marousi and PAOK in Greece, Lottomatica Roma in Italy and Valencia Basket in Spain, as well as being a member of the Greek national team. He helped Greece to win the bronce medal at the 2003 World Championships. "We are happy that Loukas chose to play for us. He also had offers from two Greek teams and a Russian powerhouse, but we managed to sign him," sports director Alexey Karvanen said. "Mavrokefalidis can play power forward and center and we believe that our frontcourt will be much stronger with his arrival."
