Eurocup tip-off just one week away
Nov 08, 2011
The 2011-12 Eurocup season is just around the corner! The new season tips off in just one week on Tuesday, November 15, with 16 fixtures taking place in 13 countries across Europe. This season the 32-team lineup and the players that compose those squads are as deep and as talented as ever, as the opening-night schedule shows. In Group B, a clash between Cholet Basket and BC Khimki Moscow region pits two teams that played in the Euroleague last season against one another. Altogether there are five clubs that played the Euroleague last season in the Eurocup for the new campaign. The Group G, Week 1 contest between Spartak Saint Petersburg and Cedevita Zagreb features a player on each team – Yotam Halperin for Spartak and Matjaz Smodis for Cedevita - who is technically a Eurocup rookie, but has won multiple Euroleague titles. And also scattered throughout the eight groups are five reigning national champions, three former Eurocup-winning clubs and four past runners-up.
Bringing Eurocup basketball to tens of millions of fans across Europe again this season is television partner Eurosport 2, which will broadcast live coverage of the competition in several languages on a weekly basis. On opening night, the Eurosport 2 cameras will be rolling at three different arenas, with coverage of the Group B matchup between VEF Riga and PAOK BC Thessaloniki; the Group D contest between Asvel Basket and two-time champion Valencia Basket; and the Group F duel between the first Eurocup runner-up, Krka Novo Mesto, and another two-time Eurocup winner, Lietuvos Rytas.
