UNICS Kazan bolstered its frontcourt by signing power forward Maurice Ndour for the remainder of the season, the team announced Wednesday. Ndour (2.06 meters, 25 years old) arrives from Westchester of the D-League, where he averaged 14.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 18 games last season. He also played for New York of the NBA last season and posted 3.1 rebounds and 2.0 rebounds in 32 games. Ndour previously played for Real Madrid and averaged 1.7 points and 1.2 rebounds in six Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games in the 2015-16 season, during which he helped the team win the Spanish League title. Ndour is also a member of the Senegalese national team, which he helped to a bronze medal at AfroBasket 2017.
"Losing Kostas Kaimakoglou for a long time and due to the injuries we have had made the team take the decision of bringing in a new player," UNICS head coach Dimitris Priftis said. "We chose Maurice Ndour because we believe he will fit well into our system, on offense and defense. Maurice is a great player with a great future, with excellent physical skills and able to help us at any point in any game. He is at the start of his European career and has a great future."
