ASVEL Villeurbanne continued its commitment to long-term success with local players by signing homegrown guard Sofiane Briki to his first professional contract. The deal will keep Briki (1.93 meters, 19 years old) with ASVEL through 2021. He was a member of the championship-winning CFBB Paris side at the Euroleague Basketball Next Generation Tournament in Istanbul in 2017. Briki grew up with ASVEL, but spent three seasons with the French National Institute of Sport and its club team CFBB before returning to ASVEL last season. He appeared in 11 French League games for ASVEL last season and also made his 7DAYS EuroCup debut with 5:28 on the floor in a regular season victory over ratiopharm Ulm.
"It is of great pride to see a pure product of the club sign his first professional contract with us," ASVEL general manager Yohann Sangare said. "He lives in front of the Astroballe and this is a goal he had set for himself since childhood... He showed by his seriousness, on and off the court, and his determination to train throughout the season so that he was ready to take the next step. We are all very happy to be able to continue with Sofiane for the next three seasons."
