Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar signed Mateusz Ponitka, who is a former EuroCup Rising Star Award winner and All-EuroCup Second Team selection. Ponitka (1.97 meters, 24 years old) arrives from Iberostar Tenerife of Spain, where he averaged 13.6 points and 5.6 rebounds over 33 Spanish League games last season. He has experience at Europe's top levels in the form of EuroLeague campaigns with Asseco Prokom and Stelmet Zielona Gora, both of his native Poland, and a total of three EuroCup seasons between Telenet Ostend of Belgium and Zielona Gora. Ponitka was named both Risins Star and All-EuroCup Second Team in 2016 after leading Zielona Gora to the EuroCup quarterfinals. A product of the youth system at Kasprowiczanka Ostrow, Ponitka made his professional debut with Tempcold AZS Politechnika. He has also played in Turkey for Pinar Karsiyaka. Ponitka, who has won both the Polish League crown and the Belgium League championship twice and lifted the Belgian Cup two times, has also represented the Polish national team.
