VEF Riga tabs veteran guard Strelnieks

Arturs Strelnieks - BK Ventspils (Photo: BK Ventspils)VEF Riga added a veteran presence to its backcourt by signing guard Arturs Strelnieks, who arrives from Latvian League rival BK Ventspils. Strelnieks (1.95 meters, 26 years old) has spent the past three seasons with Ventspils, with whom he lost to Riga in the finals last season. He averaged 7.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 24 Latvian League games for Ventspils. He played in the 2009-10 Eurocup with Ventspils. He debuted with BK Roja and later player two seasons with BK Keizarmezs Riga before joining Ventspils in 2009. His younger brother, Janis Strelnieks, plays for the Latvian national team and Spartak St. Petersburg.
