Sassari signs veteran swingman Thornton
Bootsy Thornton - Montepaschi SienaDinamo Sassari added experience and talent before its Eurocup debut next season by inking swingman Bootsy Thornton to a one-year deal, the club announced Wednesday. Thornton (1.95 meters, 35 years old) arrives from Montepaschi Siena, where he averaged 5.4 points and 2.8 rebounds in 11 Turkish Airlines Euroleague games last season. He helped Montepaschi to win the Italian double - League and Cup titles - and reach the Euroleague Quarterfinals. Thornton made the Final Four with Montepaschi in two of his previous three seasons with the club, including his first one, 2003-04, and his last, 2007-08. He played for Siena in 2004-05 as well. Thornton has also played for Efes Pilsen in Turkey, Girona and FC Barcelona in Spain and Cantu in Italy. He helped Montepaschi to win two other Italian League titles with Montepaschi in 2004 and 2008, lifted the FIBA EuroCup trophy with Girona in 2007 and helped Efes to get the Turkish League and the Turkish Cup titles. Thornton was named to the 2007-08 Euroleague second team while wearing a Montepaschi uniform.
