The move comes the day after the club signed another point guard, Frank Turner. Gamqrelidze (1.84 meters, 26 years old) has played most of his career between his native Georgia and Germany. Last season he tallied 13.4 points and 6.8 assists per game in the Georgian League for Olimpi Tbilisi. He grew up with Dinamo Tblisi and later played three seasons for Energy Invest Rustavi. In that period, Gamqrelidze led the club to two Georgian League titles, was twice named the league’s best defensive player and in 2009 was named league MVP. Gamqrelidze then moved to Germany and spent a season each with Mitteldeutscher BC Weissenfels and Giessen 46ers. He has also been a long-time member of the Georgian national team.
