Crvena Zvezda inks combo guard Nelson

DeMarcus Nelson - Cholet BasketCrvena Zvezda Diva Belgrade shored up its backcourt by signing combo guard DeMarcus Nelson to a one-year contract. Nelson (1.93 meters, 26 years old) arrives from French club Cholet Basket, with whom he averaged 13.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 30 ProA games last season. He started the season with Donetsk from Ukraine and competed in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Qualifying Rounds. Nelson played a full Euroleague season with Cholet in 2010-11. He made a name for himself playing college basketball at the famed Duke University, where Nelson was team captain for his senior year. He was also named the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year and to the All-ACC First Team after the 2007-08 season. The next year Nelson played for Golden State in the NBA and for Austin and Bakersfield in the D-League. He also played briefly in Croatia for KK Zagreb in the 2008-09 season and spent the following season in Italy with Air Avellino. Nelson is expected to join the club by the end of the week.
