Partizan NIS Belgrade excelled on both ends of the floor on Wednesday night to defeat visiting ALBA Berlin 78-66. As Coach Trinchieri summed up afterward, "If there is a team win, this is a team win."
Ten different Partizan men scored, nine played at least 14 minutes and five scored in double figures. Eight Partizan players collected at least 1 steal and they all deserve credit for the physical defense, which caused ALBA to commit 17 turnovers.
On offense, there are also many players who deserve recognition: Birthday boy Vanja Marinkovic led the way with 14 points, Jock Landale 13 - including 9 in the fourth quarter, Nikola Jankovic added 11 points and Bandja Sy and Marcus Paige netted 10 points apiece. Standing tall with only 2 points was playmaker Alex Renfroe, who set a club record with 12 assists.
When breaking down the game, ALBA coach Aito Reneses Garcia indirectly credited Renfroe for Partizan's victory when he singled out the team's success on the pick-and-roll, from which Partizan scored a lot of baskets. Renfroe's favorite pick-and-roll target was Landale, but he also teamed up with Jankovic too. It wasn't only the pick-and-roll. Renfroe found Sy cutting for a slam and assisted on three-pointers, too.
Reserve point guard Aleksej Nikolic added 6 points and 6 assists off the bench. Between Renfroe and Nikolic, Partizan got 18 assists and 2 turnovers. With strong defense and stellar point guard play, Partizan appears to have the recipe to make some noise in the Top 16.
