UNICS Kazan re-signed veteran sharpshooter Evgeny Kolesnikov for another season with an option for a second year, the club announced Tuesday. Kolesnikov (1.95 meters, 33 years old) spent the previous two seasons wearing the UNICS uniform. He averaged 4.1 points and 1.9 rebounds in 21 games in the 7DAYS EuroCup last season – including 17 as a starter – to help his team reach the semifinals. Kolesnikov produced 5.5 points and 2.3 rebounds in the VTB United League to help his team the semifinals there, too. He also played for UNICS in the 2013-14 season.
Kolesnikov started his career with CSK VVS Samara and has played for several other Russian teams, including Ural Great Perm, Spartak Primorie Vladivostok, Spartak St. Petersburg, Krasnie Krylia Samara and Enisey Krasnoyarsk, as well as for VEF Riga of Latvia and Rio Natura Monbus Obradoiro of Spain. He lifted the EuroChallenge trophy with Krylia in 2013, won the FIBA Eurocup Challenge title with Perm in 2006, claimed the Russian League crown with Spartak St. Petersburg in 2011 and the Russian Cup with UNICS in 2014. Kolesnikov has also been a member of the Russian national team.
UNICS also announced that backcourt mate Pavel Sergeev remains for the coming season after the club picked up the option he had on his contract.
