Lokomotiv finds new coach in Banchi

Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar reached an agreement with head coach Luca Banchi, who signed a one-year deal with the Russian powerhouse on Friday. Banchi, age 53, arrives from AEK Athens, to which it led to the Intercontinental Cup title last season. He started his career with Livorno and also coached Trieste, Trapani and Jesi before taking an assistant coach job with Montepaschi Siena from 2006 to 2012. Montepaschi won six consecutive Italian League titles and reached two Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Fours - in 2008 and 2001 - during his six years as an assistant coach. Banchi was promoted to head coach before the start of the 2012-13 season and went on to coach AX Armani Exchange Olimpia Milan, helping it win the Italian League title in 2014 - the club's first since 1996. He has also coached Auxilium Torino and Fiat Turin of Italy and Brose Bamberg of Germany. Banchi has a 39-43 coaching record in the EuroLeague in four seasons with Siena, Milan and Bamberg. He has a 6-6 EuroCup record with Fiat in the 2017-18 season.
