UNICS Kazan signed Alex Tyus, one of the top shot-blockers in Turkish Airlines EuroLeague history, to a one-year contract with an option for another. Tyus (2.03 meters, 31 years old), who will debut in the 7DAYS EuroCup this season, arrives from Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv, the same club with which he won the EuroLeague title in 2014. He averaged 7.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 30 EuroLeague games with Maccabi last season, his fourth campaign over two stints with the club. For his career, Tyus is third on the all-time standings with 208 blocked shots. He has played a total of 176 EuroLeague games for Maccabi, Cantu in Italy and Anadolu Efes Istanbul and Galatasaray Istanbul in Turkey. Tyus made his professional debut in 2011 with Maccabi Ashdod in Israel after a college basketball career at the University of Florida, where he was a teammate of All-EuroLeague guard Nick Calathes of Panathinaikos OPAP Athens and former 7DAYS EuroCup MVP Scottie Wilbekin. Tyus was the EuroLeague MVP of the Month in April 2014 and his trophy case also includes three Israeli League trophies and two Israeli Cups.
