Joventut Badalona added valuable experience to its roster by inking playmaker Nikos Zisis to a two-year deal, the club announced on Monday. Zisis (1.97 meters, 35 years old) arrives from Brose Bamberg, where he averaged 7.1 points and 4.2 assists in 36 German League games last season. Zisis gave Bamberg the German Cup title by hitting the championship-winning shot with 2.4 seconds left. His two year contract with Joventut will assure Zisis of playing 20 years as a professional. He started his professional basketball career at age 16 with AEK Athens of his native Greece, where he played from 2000 to 2005. Zizis helped AEK win a Greek Cup title in 2001 and a Greek League crown in 2002, reaching the EuroLeague semifinals in the competition's original season, 2000-01. He has also played for Benetton Treviso and Montepaschi Siena of Italy, CSKA Moscow of Russia, Bilbao Basket of Spain, UNICS Kazan of Russia and Fenerbahce Istanbul of Turkey before joining Bamberg in 2015.
Zisis helped CSKA win a EuroLeague title in 2008 and reach the Championship Game in 2009. Zisis played two other EuroLeague Final Fours, with Siena in 2011 and Fenerbahce in 2015. He won a Italian Cup title with Benetton in 2007 and three Italian doubles – league and cup crowns – with Siena in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Zisis also lifted the Russian Cup trophy with UNICS in 2014, won back-to-back German League titles with Bamberg in 2017 and 2018, and got another German Cup crown with Bamberg in 2017. He has also reached two 7DAYS EuroCup Finals, with Bilbao in 2013 and UNICS in 2014, losing against Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar and Valencia Basket, respectively. Zisis ranks fourth all-time in EuroLeague games played, 310, and is 10th in assists, 885. This will be his third EuroCup campaign.
