Lokomotiv Kuban is reuniting with Mantas Kalnietis, the starting point guard on its only 7DAYS EuroCup title team, the club announced on Friday. Kalnietis (1.95 meters, 32 years old) is among the most experienced floor generals in Europe, having played 11 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague seasons as well as three and part of a fourth in the EuroCup for four different clubs. For the last of those, LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, he averaged 10.2 points and a team-high 5.7 assists last season while guiding the team within a shot of the semifinals. His EuroCup debut could not have gone any better as Kalnietis averaged a career-high 13.4 points and 4.9 assists in helping to lead his new team, Lokomotiv, to the title in the 2012-13 season. He played two more seasons, one in the EuroLeague and one in the EuroCup, with Loko before returning to his hometown club, Zalgiris Kaunas, where he had spent the first seven seasons of his career. After a year in Kaunas, he played for two with AX Armani Exchange Milan before joining ASVEL last season. Beyond his club career, Kalnietis has been two-time EuroBasket and World Cup medalist with the Lithuanian national team, as well as a multiple domestic leagues champion and part of the Zalgiris team that won the first Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament in 2003.
