Joventut Badalona reached a new agreement with head coach Carles Duran to extend his contract for two more years, until the end of the 2021-22 season, the club announced Tuesday. Duran, age 43, joined Joventut in February 2018, replacing Diego Ocampo. He helped Joventut get eight wins in the last 10 regular season Spanish League games that season to avoid what would have been the team's first-ever relegation. Last season, Duran led Joventut to a seventh-place regular season finish with a 18-16 record, leading the team to the Copa del Rey semifinals and the Spanish League playoffs. Duran started his coaching career with Joventut. He coached young teams and Joventut's sister team, Prat, but also worked as assistant coach for Aito Garcia Reneses, Pepu Hernandez and Sito Alonso. He went on to work for Valencia, first as Velimir Perasovic's assistant, then as its head coach late in the 2014-15 season, then back to assistant when the club signed Pedro Martinez. Duran has also coached Bilbao Basket and the Spanish U17 national team.
