For 2005-06 the EuroCup, then called the ULEB Cup, was back down to 24 teams in the regular season. Once again, the elimination rounds would start with 16 teams in the eighthfinals home-and-away series. As the series advanced, four teams would make it to the semifinals: Aris Thessaloniki and Hemofarm Vrsac on the one hand and Dynamo Moscow and 2004 champ Hapoel Jerusalem on the other. Eventually, Aris and Dynamo advanced to the final that was to be played, of course, in Charleroi, Belgium. After having fallen earlier than expected the previous season, this time Dynamo managed to go to the end with a 60-73 win that gave the team its only European title and the chance to play in the EuroLeague the following season. Ruben Douglas was named MVP of the final, while names like Lazaros Papadopoulos, Antonis Fotsis and Mire Chatman also played their part in that success.
