Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar reached an agreement with point guard Mantas Kalnietis to remain together for another season, the club announced Wednesday. Kalnietis (1.95 meters, 33 years old) averaged 6.9 points and 3.5 assists in 10 7DAYS EuroCup games last season. He is among the most experienced floor generals in Europe, having played 11 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague seasons as well as five in the EuroCup for four different clubs. His EuroCup debut could not have gone any better as Kalnietis averaged a career-high 13.4 points and 4.9 assists in helping to lead his current team, Lokomotiv, to the title in the 2012-13 season. He played two more seasons, one in the EuroLeague and one in the EuroCup, with Loko before returning to his hometown club, Zalgiris Kaunas, where he had spent the first seven seasons of his career. After a year in Kaunas, he played for two with AX Armani Exchange Milan before joining ASVEL for the 2018-19 campaign. Beyond his club career, Kalnietis is a two-time EuroBasket and World Cup medalist with the Lithuanian national team.
"I am happy to continue my career at Loko," Kalnietis said. "I feel that we didn't finish the job last season and we still have a bittersweet taste after our last EuroCup experience. I hope that next season we will understand each other much better from the beginning. Loko fans, I believe that we will defeat the virus. I'll see you in the fall at Basket-Hall for a great 2020-21 season!"
