AS Monaco announced that is has hired Zvezdan Mitrovic as its new head coach. Mitrovic, 50, arrives from LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, where he spent the past two seasons. He led ASVEL to the French championship in 2019 and a 10-18 record in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague last season. Mitrovic already coach Monaco for four years, allowing the club to take giant steps forward. He helped Monaco win the French second division in 2015 and finish first in the French League regular season in 2016, 2017 and 2018. A two-time French League coach of the year, Mitrovic helped Monaco win three consecutive French Leaders Cups from 2016 through 2018 and reach the Basketball Champions League final in the 2017-18 season.
Mitrovic started his coaching career with Buducnost Podgorica before joining Ukrainian side Khimik Yuzhny as head coach in 2002. Mitrovic also coached Krivbasbasket-Lux Kryvyi Rog, Budivelnik Kiev and Azovmash Mariupol in Ukraine before joining Monaco. He helped Krivbasbasket win the Ukrainian UBL title in 2009 and also won the Ukrainian Cup with Budivelnik in 2012. Mitrovic has coached the French U20 and the Montenegrin national teams, too.
