There is some déjà vu in Group C of the 7DAYS EuroCup Regular Season; Virtus Segafredo Bologna, Morabanc Andorra and AS Monaco finished first, second and third, respectively, in Group A of the regular season a year ago. What's more, Virtus and Monaco were set to clash in the EuroCup Quarterfinals before the 2019-20 season came to a premature end due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They are joined by former EuroCup champion Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar as well as two teams returning to the EuroCup after several seasons away: Lietkabelis Panevezys and Telenet Giants Antwerp. Interestingly, neither Lietkabelis nor Antwerp have ever played any of the other teams in the group in the EuroCup before, which will make for lots of firsts.
Ginas Rutkauskas, Vice President, Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar
"Group A and C, in my opinion, gathered the most powerful rivals. We have a very tight group. Monaco and Virtus, which has long been striving for the EuroLeague, stand out. This team decently increased the budget this year; they have a solid roster. Other competitors should not be discounted, either. Andorra is not a gift; it plays in the championship of Spain. Lietkabelis represents a strong Lithuanian school. Antwerp recently played in the FIBA Champions League and went to that final four. The draw is only the beginning of the journey. We look forward to the start of the tournament!"
Oleksiy Yefimov, General Manager, AS Monaco Basket
"Indeed , it's a great draw! We always want to serve Monaco fans with the highest level of basketball entertainment. In this regard, I'm happy that we will have such historical opponent as Virtus, whom we should have faced last season in the quarterfinals. Lokomotiv is probably one of the most financially powerful clubs in the competition. It'll be challenging to face one of the Russian powerhouses. And it's a great thing that already for the third time, we will have a special battle of two principalities while facing Andorra. Big respect to Lietkabelis, representative of a real basketball country, as well as Antwerp Giants, who have recently made huge steps in their development."
Paolo Ronci, General Manager, Virtus Segafredo Bologna
"Virtus Segafredo Bologna has the most respect for the competition and all the teams, so there are no particular comments about the group. We hope and we wish everyone that we can play high-level basketball and to fill the arenas with fans."
Bjorn Verhoeven, Chairman, Telenet Giants Antwerp
"We are very proud that we have been invited to the EuroCup. Telenet Giants Antwerp will welcome the five opponents warmly and with style. The fact that we can host teams such as Virtus Bolgona, Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar, Lietkabelis, Andorra and Monaco in the Lotto Arena is also a great thing for Belgian basketball."
Guy Muya, General Manager, Telenet Giants Antwerp
"In the first place, we are very proud that we can participate in the EuroCup as the Belgian Cup Winner. The draw also brought us into a beautiful but above all heavy group. That we can receive five beautiful teams in Antwerp is fantastic. Virtus Bolgona with Milos Teodosic is a nice extra for our fans. Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar, Monaco and Virtus Bologna are, of course, the favorites. With Andorra and Lietkabelis we hope to be able to contend for the fourth place and qualification for the second round."
