Gran Canaria puts Albicy into backcourt
Herbalife Gran Canaria found a point guard to run the offense in its upcoming return to the 7DAYS EuroCup by signing Andrew Albicy, the club announced on Saturday. An All-EuroCup First Team selection in 2019, Albicy (1.78 meters, 30 years old) arrives from Zenit St Petersburg where he averaged 6.6 points and 3.3 assists in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague last season, while posting 6.2 points and 4.1 assists in the VTB League action. Prior to making a EuroLeague debut with Zenit, Albiciy spent three seasons with MoraBanc Andorra which he led to the EuroCup semifinals in the 2018-19 campaign, when he averaged 12.1 points on 43.1% three-point shooting, ranked third in the competition with 5.9 assists, and fourth with 1.8 steals. Albicy is a veteran of four seasons and 51 appearances in the EuroCup, having also played a season with each BCM Gravelines Dunkerque and Paris-Levallois. Albicy started his career with Paris Basket Racing in his native France and has been a member of the French national team at both the junior and senior levels. He helped France win a gold medal at the 2010 U20 European Championships, a silver medal at EuroBasket 2011, and a bronze at the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
