AS Monaco secured the services of one of the top young guards in French basketball when it signed Yohan Choupas on Friday. Choupas (1.92 meters, 20 years old) arrives from Pau-Orthez where he averaged 2.6 points and 1.1 assists in 12.6 minutes per game in the French league last season. A product of CFBB Paris, the French national training institute’s club, Choupas played two seasons in the Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament and won the title in 2017 in Istanbul. He has also been a regular with the French youth national teams. He helped France to the bronze medal at the 2019 World U19 Championships in Greece as well as the year earlier at the European U18 Championships in Latvia.
"Yohan Choupas is a young player with great potential," Coach Zvezdan Mitrovic said. "He is athletic and must take advantage of his coming to Monaco to take an important step forward. I hope he will blossom with us. That's the goal."
