Partizan, Velickovic stay together another season
Serbian powerhouse Partizan NIS Belgrade signed a new contract with a club legend and team captain Novica Velickovic, the club announced on Tuesday. For Velickovic (2.05 meters, 33 years old) this will be his 11th season for the hometown club where he also started his professional career as a teenager in 2004. A record-holder for all-time games played in Partizan uniform, and a leader on and off the court, Velickovic posted 7.9 points and 4.1 rebounds in eight 7DAYS Eurocup appearances last season, and also averaged 6.3 points and 2.9 rebounds in the Adriatic League action. The veteran power forward was voted the EuroLeague Rising Star for 2008-09. Velickovic went on to join Real Madrid that same summer, helping the club reach the EuroLeague Final Four in 2011. After a three-year stint with Real, he also went on to play with Mega Vizura in Serbia, Brose Bamberg in Germany and Trabzonspor Medical Park in Turkey, before returning to Partizan in 2016. Velickovic has also been a member of the Serbian national team, which he helped to a silver medal at EuroBasket 2009.
