Lokomotic Kuban Krasnodar added depth and experience to its backcourt by signing veteran guard Ivan Paunic for the remainder of the season, the club announced Wednesday. Paunic (1.98 meters, 33 years old) last played for Mega Bemax of Serbia, where he averaged 3.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in a pair of Adriatic League games last season. He had started the season in Iran with Chemidor Teheran.
Paunic started his career in his native Serbia with for Partizan Belgrade and lated played for Avala Ada Belgrade and Vojvodina Srbijagas Novi Sad. He has also played for Ostend of Belgium, Nizhny Novgorod of Russia, Azovmash Mariupol of Ukraine, Baloncesto Fuenlabrada of Spain, Astana of Kazakhstan, Buducnost VOLI Podgorica of Montenegro and Tofas Bursa of Turkey. He helped Buducnost win the Montenegrin Cup title in 2015 and lifted the Serbia and Montenegro League trophy with Partizan in 2005. Paunic has played in 46 EuroCup games over five seasons with five different clubs in his career. He has also been a member of the Serbian national team, with which he won a silver medal at EuroBasket 2009.
"I am very glad to join Lokomotiv Kuban. The team has good players, is controlled by a strong coaching staff and competent leadership. Along with a number of clubs, Loko is one of the favorites to win the EuroCup," Paunic said. "I have already conducted several trainings with the team and see that we have great potential. I am confident that we will achieve good results this season."
