Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar may be without Alan Williams for the remainder of the season after the club's star center suffered a serious knee injury. Williams, who leads the 7DAYS EuroCup in rebounds with 12.5 rebounds per game, was injured in a VTB United League game against Enisey. The diagnosis is a rupture of the patellar ligament in his left knee. Williams underwent surgery in Moscow, which according to Lokomotiv's head of medical staff Konstantin Shubin, was successful. He will remain in the clinic for a few days before he begins a recovery that is estimated to last six months.
Williams averaged 14.5 points, the aforementioned 12.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in eight EuroCup games this season, his second with the club. He ranked third in the competition in PIR, averaging 21.1 per game, and posted five consecutive double-doubles, an achievement not seen in the EuroCup since Mario Austin did it for Hapoel Jerusalem in the 2006-07 campaign.
