Herbalife Gran Canaria, already qualified to the 7DAYS EuroCup Top 16, is experiencing a roster shakeup ahead of its first-place Group D showdown with Dolomiti Energia Trento due to injuries and other lineup moves. The latest news on Monday night included foot injuries to the team's top assist-maker, guard Andrew Albicy, and its best rebounder, center Matt Costello, both suffered in a weekend domestic game. Albicy may just miss the team's 10th and final Group D game in Trento on Wednesday, but Costello is due to be out for several weeks with a right foot muscle tear. Albicy has averaged 6.6 points, 1.9 rebounds and 5.5 assists in the EuroCup this season, while Costello puts up 9.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists.
Their absences come on the heels of other comings and goings at Gran Canaria. Also on Monday, the club announced the temporary suspension of its contract with center Jacob Wiley to allow him to recover from COVID-19, which he contracted while playing for North Macedonia's national team at the end of November. Wiley has returned to his native United States to recuperate and is expected to rejoin the team once well again. Also over the weekend, Gran Canaria let go of its second-best assist-maker, Frankie Ferrari, who subsequently signed a short-term deal with Unicaja Malaga. To cover his spot, Gran Canaria signed veteran scorer Sean Kilpatrick.
