Who's hot: David Michineau, Boulogne Metropolitans 92

Few players have been more important to a team's success by dramatically raising production in the 7DAYS EuroCup Top 16 as Boulogne Metropolitans 92 point guard David Michineau. After scoring in double figures just twice and posting a double-digit PIR only once during the regular season, Michineau has been on fire during the Top 16.

Not just with his scoring, but also by taking the reins of his team's offense as a starting point guard, Michineau has been instrumental in bringing Metropolitans to the brink of the quarterfinals as the team goes into its pivotal Round 5 clash against Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar on Wednesday.

Michineau struggled during the regular season. He averaged just 6.4 points, making fewer than half of his two-point attempts, and sinking just 4 of 26 shots from three-point territory. He also averaged 3.7 assists, and accumulated a total PIR of 40, for an average of 4.0 per game.

In the Top 16, however, Michineau more than quadrupled that PIR average to 18.0. He is one of Top 16's best scorers, tied for fourth with 17.3 points per game while improving dramatically in two-point shooting (64.3%) and three-point accuracy (45%) despite a big increase in the volume of his attempts. He has more total rebounds in four Top 16 games (14) than he did in 10 regular-season appearances (13).

After averaging 21:19 minutes in the regular season, he is now playing 30:39 per game as a starter during the Top 16 and delivering at a high rate.

Michineau first scored 19 points with 6 assists and 6 rebounds in Metropolitans' 79-83 road upset of Lokomotiv in Top 16 Round 1. He followed that up with 16 points and 4 assists in a 17-point home win over Partizan NIS Belgrade.

Michineau continued his form in Round 3 of the Top 16, when he posted 23 points, 4 assists and 4 rebounds in a thrilling 92-86 overtime win against Dolomiti Energia Trento. In the last game before the break, Metropolitan's only loss in the Top 16 so far, Michineau had 11 points, 6 assists and 3 rebounds.

Only three players have scored more points since the finish of the regular season than Michineau's 69. In the Top 16 so far, he also ranks eighth with an average PIR of 18.0 and 10th with 5.0 assists per game. His 64.3% conversion on two-point shots is fifth-best among guards in the Top 16.

Michineau has been very successful over the last four games whether taking the ball to the rim or knocking down long-range shots. During the regular season, he made 3 or fewer two-point shots in 7 of 10 games, averaging 4.9 two-point attempts per game. He also made just 4 triples and never more than 1 in a game.

In the Top 16, Michineau has made at least 4 two-point shots in each game, mostly sinking runners and floaters or finishing at the rim, with an occasional mid-range jumper to keep opposing defenses honest. He has already nailed 9 threes, too, more than double what he made in the regular season.

Metropolitans can clinch a spot in the quarterfinals with a home win over Lokomotiv on Wednesday, and its chances will only increase if Michineau delivers another performance like he has done so far in the Top 16.
