Azovmash lands Thompson, Rizvic

Dijon Thompson Azovmash Mariupol has signed another two new players for the upcoming season, versatile forward Dijon Thompson, who arrives from German club Alba Berlin and Hasan Rizvic, who arrives from Union Olimpija. Thompson (201, 25) inked a one-year deal with the reigning Ukrainian League champion. He averaged 11.6 points and 6.5 rebounds in eight ULEB Cup games last season, his first in Europe. Thompson parted ways with Alba before the start of the German League playoffs. Thompson recorded 11.1 points and 6.8 rebounds in 28 German League appearances. He previously played for the Albuquerque Thunderbirds in the D-League, as well as for the Atlanta Hawks and the Phoenix Suns in the NBA. Before that, Thompson was a star in college at UCLA, averaging 18.4 points and 7.9 rebounds in 28 NCAA games in the 2004-05 season, his senior year at the school. Meanwhile, Rizvic (212, 24) arrives from Union Olimpija, where he has played for the best part of the last three seasons. He helped Olimpija to win Slovenian League titles in 2006 and 2008, and averaged 3.8 points in 13 Euroleague games this season. Rizvic has also played for Pivovarna Lasko and Calik Zenica in Slovenia, as well as for Asco Slask in Poland. Rizvic is also a member of the Slovenian national team. Azovmash also landed point guard Khalid El-Amin last week.
