One day after he was released by Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv, Aleks Maric found a new home. The veteran center signed with Galatasaray Liv Hospital Istanbul and will face Maccabi as well as one of his other former teams, Panathinaikos Athens, in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Top 16. Maric (2.11 meters, 30 years old) averaged 2.3 points and 2.3 rebounds in a mostly reserve role over eight Euroleague games with the champs this season. He originally signed a short-term deal with Maccabi at the start of the season to help when its frontcourt was depleted by injuries.
Maric debuted in the Euroleague with Partizan Belgrade in the 2009-10 season; he was named to the All-Euroleague First Team that season after helping Partizan reach the Euroleague Final Four. He then spent two seasons with Panathinaikos, with whom he won the 2011 Euroleague championship and two years with Lokomotiv Kuban, with whom he won the 2013 Eurocup. Maric has also featured on the Australian Olympic team at the FIBA World Championships and the Olympic games.
