Because you can never get enough help making picks in the FabFive Challenge, let's examine some promising tips for Round 20.
Take a good look at players from Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade and Real Madrid. Those two teams will have fresh legs after their Round 19 showdown set for Wednesday was postponed because of the snowstorm in the Spanish capital, which made it impossible for Zvezda to arrive. Real faces an FC Bayern Munich squad that played just 48 hours earlier. Zvezda visits a Valencia Basket, which had to travel home after losing to AX Armani Exchange Milan on Tuesday.
Examine the minutes played from Round 19. Alexey Shved and Devin Booker of Khimki Moscow Region, James Anderson of Anadolu Efes Istanbul, Achille Polonara of TD Systems Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz and Scottie Wilbekin and Elijah Bryant of Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv all played at least 32 minutes on Tuesday and have games again on Thursday. The same can be said of Mike James of CSKA Moscow and Kevin Pangos of Zenit St Petersburg, who played more than 32 minutes on Wednesday and play again on Friday.
Think long and hard about using these guys and give a good look at their backups in the earlier ranges.
And finally, listen to the grapevine. Star players such as Nikola Mirotic of FC Barcelona, Jordan Loyd of Zvezda and Bojan Dubljevic have all been ruled out for Round 20, but check back before the games because... you just never know.
With that in mind, here are some FabFive suggestions for Round 20:
Range 1 (0 to 3.99) – He made his return to action with Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade in domestic play nearly two weeks ago and Landry Nnoko has been practicing with the team ever since. If he's back in form, Nnoko is a Range 1 steal.
Range 2 (4 to 7.99) – Chris Jones has a big role for Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv off the bench and given the minutes Scottie Wilbekin and Elijah Bryant logged on Tuesday, Jones – who scored 9 points in 20 minutes in the game – should get his fair share of shots against TD Systems Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz.
Range 3 (8 to 11.99) – With 14 points on Wednesday and 26 last week, Dennis Seeley is in great form for FC Bayern Munich. His team has a tough matchup against Real Madrid on Friday, but Seeley is now a big part of the offense and could put up big numbers again.
Range 4 (12 to 14.99) – As long as Shane Larkin is in Range 4, he is a fantastic option. The showdown against former Alphonso Ford Trophy winner Alexey Shved from Khimki Moscow Region could propel Larkin to great heights, too.
Range 5 (15.0 or higher) – There are only 13 players in Range 5 and three of them are not expected to play. Several others are facing some of the league's best defenses. Kevin Punter has cooled down recently, but perhaps a trip to Berlin is what he needs to have another big night.
Good luck in Round 20!
