There are themes that can guide your selection process in FabFive Challenge. Some are constant. For instance, think twice before ever selecting a player facing the daunting Zenit St. Peterburg defense.
Other themes emerge from time to time. This week, there are two teams that may have different looks than ever before. Oded Kattash was hired as Panathinaikos OPAP Athens's new head coach last week. He was already on the sidelines in Round 20, but didn't have much time to prepare his team for that game. With a week under his belt, what might be different with the Green now?
Khimki Moscow Region also made a coaching change with Andrei Maltsev taking over for Rimas Kurtinaitis, at least on an interim basis. Coach Maltsev arrives from within and knows his players, but will surely have some ideas of his own, too.
Finally, four teams will be playing for the second time this week. Olympiacos Piraeus edged LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne in overtime on Tuesday and the latter will be on the court just 48 hours later. Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade bested Real Madrid the day before. Those teams will have had more time to recover after their Monday game, but it remains a consideration.
With that in mind, here are some FabFive suggestions for Round 21:
Range 1 (0 to 3.99) – The players in this range are all about upside. Which player will get that opportunity? Sergey Karasev of Khimki Moscow Region is a worthy gamble. If interim coach Andrei Maltsev shakes things up, Karasev has shown he can be an elite scorer at previous clubs.
Range 2 (4 to 7.99) – When facing Real Madrid, what better way to combat the presence of Sergeant Swat in the paint than by having your big men shoot threes? Dragan Bender could end up with a pivotal role for Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv on Thursday.
Range 3 (8 to 11.99) – His last two games have been Gigi Datome's highest-scoring games of the season. He knocked down a combined 10 three-pointers between them. He should be one of AX Armani Exchange Milan's top weapons against FC Bayern Munich, too.
Range 4 (12 to 14.99) – Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul will be motivated for its showdown at CSKA Moscow. The team is undefeated since Marko Guduric came aboard and he is taking on a big role. If CSKA puts an emphasis on stopping Nando De Colo and Jan Vesely, Guduric could be in for a strong game.
Range 5 (15.0 or higher) – After missing a few games, Nikola Mirotic is back for FC Barcelona and should be determined to shine as bright as before.
Good luck in Round 21!
